What happened to La Mar
For a decade the answer to "best Peruvian in Miami" was La Mar by Gastón Acurio at the Mandarin Oriental on Brickell Key. In January 2025 La Mar announced that it would leave the hotel and move about a mile to a new Brickell building. In October 2026 its own page still says "coming soon" at 1441 S Miami Ave, with no opening date or hours.
Until it opens, the Acurio option is Jarana, his restaurant and pisco bar at The Abbey next to Aventura Mall. Treat any list that still sends you to La Mar on Brickell Key as out of date.
What to order at a Peruvian restaurant
Ceviche is raw fish cured in lime with ají, onion and cilantro, served with sweet potato and corn; the leftover juice, leche de tigre, is often served as a shot. Tiradito is the sliced, sashimi-style cousin, the clearest sign of Peru's Japanese Nikkei tradition. Causa is a cold layered potato terrine.
From the hot side, lomo saltado is beef stir-fried with tomato, onion and fries, served with rice; arroz chaufa is Peruvian-Chinese fried rice; ají de gallina is shredded chicken in a creamy yellow-pepper sauce. To drink, a pisco sour or a chilcano, and Inca Kola for anyone not drinking.
