Dim sum: go west to Bird Road

Miami's best-known dim sum is not downtown. It is on Bird Road (SW 40th Street) in Westchester, across from Tropical Park, where Tropical Chinese has been serving Cantonese food for decades. On weekends the dim sum comes round on carts, table to table. Its listings give lunch hours of 11:30 am to 3:30 pm on weekdays, 11 am on Saturday and 10:30 am on Sunday, with dinner from 5 pm.

Two warnings. Reviews mention waits at weekend lunch, so arrive when it opens. And the restaurant's own site would not load for us, so the hours above come from listings, not from Tropical Chinese itself. Call before you make the drive.

Zitz Sum in Coral Gables, at 396 Alhambra Circle, is the modern, pricier take: rotating dim sum such as sheng jian bao and wontons, in a dining room rather than a banquet hall. Its site is live, but the hours page did not load for us; book through the site.

Dinner: regional Chinese and the new Chinese-American

Mimi Chinese, at 1575 Alton Road in South Beach, is the Miami branch of a Toronto restaurant from Big Hug Hospitality, open since December 2024. The menu draws on Guangdong, Sichuan, Hong Kong and Hunan cooking, with large sharing plates such as Hunan chili sea bass and four-foot belt noodles, and a drinks list with baijiu and sake. Book ahead; it is a special-occasion room.

Double Luck Chinese started as a pop-up and became a permanent restaurant on the Upper Eastside in winter 2025, in the old New Schnitzel House space. The chef calls the food polished versions of Chinese-American classics: crab rangoon as a whole stuffed crab claw, Hennessy orange chicken flambéed at the table, tempura eggplant in a Sichuan fish-fragrant sauce. Resy lists it at one dollar sign; book on Resy rather than walking in.

If you typed 'comida china Miami' for a quick takeout box rather than a dinner out, these are not that. Use your delivery app for the neighborhood places near your hotel, and save these for a sit-down meal.

Komodo Miami

801 Brickell Ave · Brickell · $$$$

Komodo is not a traditional Chinese restaurant. It is a big, multi-level Brickell restaurant and lounge with a pan-Asian menu, and Miami New Times put it on its January 2025 list of Miami's best Chinese restaurants among the fusion picks.

Come for the room and a group dinner, not for dim sum. Its site lists a restaurant, a lounge and private events but no hours or prices on the pages we opened, so book online.
