Skinny Louie is the burger to measure Wynwood by: paper-thin smashed patties with lacy edges, a short menu, and a line that moves fast because everyone orders the same thing.

Why you go

Because it does one thing and wins awards for it. The patties are smashed thin on the griddle so the edges crisp, the cheese melts into the crust, and the bun is soft enough to disappear. The menu is small on purpose: single, double, fries, a shake. It won Miami's Burger Bash and then took Best Burger at the New York one, which is the kind of thing a smash burger spot does not usually manage.

When to go

Lunch on a weekday is quick. Weekend evenings there is a line but the kitchen is built for it. Late is the Wynwood move: it runs until 1 am most nights, 3 am Friday and Saturday.

Know before you go

$; a double, fries and a drink comes in under twenty. Counter service, a few seats, mostly standing or walking back out with a bag.

Getting there

1. The nearest Metromover station is School Board, about 24 minutes on foot. Metrobus stops at Northwest 2nd Avenue & Northwest 25th Street, 2 minutes away. Parking, according to Google: a paid lot, paid street parking and free street parking.
