For a downtown breakfast, a long coffee or a box of pastries that aren't from a wholesaler. The trade-off: it's daytime only, closes at 5 (4 on Sunday), and prices sit at $$.

The story behind the cakes

Founder Vitalii Korsikov grew up helping his mother sell her cakes on the street in Ukraine, and the family later ran bakeries and cafés in Odesa and Kyiv. The war pushed him out, and he opened Vanilla in Miami in June 2024 with her recipes, which she still sends him from home. That backstory shows up on the counter: every dessert is made in-house, with Belgian chocolate, Brazilian pistachio and farmer's cheese from Ukraine. This is the Downtown branch, one of two, and it has its own kitchen. It holds a 4.7 from about 1,050 Google reviews.

What to order

Shakshuka is the dish reviewers keep naming: free-range eggs, cherry tomatoes, peppers, feta and homemade bread. The burrata croissant comes loaded with sun-dried tomatoes, avocado, spinach, cream cheese and pesto, so it eats like a meal. For something less rich there's crunchy oatmeal with Greek yogurt and house granola, or protein pancakes made with oat milk. The creamy fish omelet with lightly salted salmon and brioche is the one that feels most like Eastern Europe. Finish with a pastry, since that's the whole point of the place.

Coffee and timing

The beans come from a Honduran farm run by one family for three generations, roasted in Miami by a relative and delivered fresh. It's third-wave specialty coffee, and a reviewer on the site praises the dairy-free milk options. Hours run 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Saturday and 8 to 4 on Sunday, and the kitchen serves until close, so a late breakfast at 3 works. It suits a weekday work break in downtown or a slower weekend brunch. Evening plans need to go elsewhere.

Reservations

For a group or private event, call the cafe at (305) 902-7972 to book ahead.

Good to know

Sunday closes an hour earlier, at 4 pm, so don't plan a late Sunday brunch.
