Brickell rooftops, ranked by what you want from the night
Three rooftops a short walk from each other, and they are not interchangeable. One is for the sunset, one is for the late part of the night, one is for dinner. Here is which is which, and how to do all three in one evening.
Resumo
- Sunset: Sugar Rooftop, upstairs by 6:30 on a weekday.
- Late: Rosa Sky, open until 2 am Tuesday to Saturday.
- Dinner: Area 31, $$ on Google, dinner until 10 pm on weeknights.
- Monday: Rosa Sky is closed; Sugar and Area 31 are open.
If you only have one night: Sugar for the sunset, then Area 31 for dinner. Rosa Sky is where you end up if the night is going well.
Sugar Rooftop
You come out of the elevator into a tropical garden with the Brickell skyline standing right there, and for about twenty minutes around sunset the sky does the thing you came to Miami for. The drinks are good enough that you forget you are paying for the altitude.
Get there by 6:30 on a weekday. Friday and Saturday after nine it turns into a line, a cover and a DJ, which is fun if that is your night and annoying if you wanted the sunset. Thursday is the sweet spot: busy, not packed.
Rosa Sky
Lower than Sugar and open later than almost anything else on this list: 4:30 pm to 2 am from Tuesday to Saturday, and from 2 pm on Sunday, which makes it the only rooftop of the three you can start in the afternoon. It is a cocktail bar on the 22nd floor of a Brickell tower, with 4.7 on Google from more than seven thousand people, and it is the room the night moves to once dinner is over.
Closed on Monday. Come in a group, come after dinner, and do not plan to leave early.
The order matters: sunset first, dinner second, the late bar last. Do it the other way around and you miss the sunset and arrive at dinner too wired to enjoy it.
Area 31
The calm one. A restaurant first and a rooftop second, open for dinner from 4 pm to 10 pm on weekdays and until 11 pm on Saturday. On Saturday and Sunday it also opens at 7 am and runs until 5 pm, so it is the one rooftop here you can book for breakfast or a long lunch with a view.
Google puts it at $$, which is the lowest of the three, and 4.4 from more than two thousand reviews. Book a table around 8 and let dinner take two hours.
Quanto custa
Google's price level; the cheapest way to get a rooftop evening in Brickell
