The Metromover is the easiest free ride in Miami for downtown and Brickell, as long as you are done by 10 pm and check which stations the upgrade work has closed this month.
What it is and how it works
The Metromover is Miami-Dade County's free people mover through downtown and Brickell. It runs from Financial District station in Brickell to School Board station in the Omni area. There are no fare gates: walk in, ride, walk out.
The county gives the hours as 5:30 am to 10 pm, seven days a week, with cars every 90 seconds at rush hour and every three minutes off-peak. That makes it the simplest way to cross downtown for a game, a museum or a train, but useless after a late concert.
There are three loops: the Omni Loop runs north toward the Arsht Center, the Brickell Loop runs south into Brickell, and the Inner Loop circles the downtown core. The county counts 21 stations on its Metromover page.
What is closed this fall
The county is upgrading the Metromover's train control, power and track equipment, work it started building in July 2022 with no announced end date.
From Saturday, October 24, 2026, Financial District station is closed for five weeks. The Brickell Loop keeps running, but its trips now start and end at Brickell station. A county alert from March 3, 2026 also closed Miami Avenue station on the Inner Loop and sent riders to Third Street station, two blocks south; we found no notice that it has reopened.
During interruptions the county runs a free shuttle bus and posts its map on the Metromover page. Check miamidade.gov/transit on the day you ride.

Pérez Art Museum Miami
The bayfront art museum sits right beside Museum Park station. PAMM's accessibility page describes a plaza elevator from ground level up to the main entrance on level one, so you can get from the train to the door without stairs.
Frost Science is next door on the same stop. Check both museums' hours and ticket prices on their own sites before you go.
Riding it well
Let people off first, then board, and hold a pole or handrail. Keep strollers and luggage held so they cannot roll. Priority seats are at both ends of each car.
Each station is announced as the car approaches. Tactile tiles mark the platform edge, and if an elevator is out of service the county promises backup accessible service within 30 minutes when you press the red box at the station.
The Metromover does not go to Miami Beach, Wynwood or the airport. For the airport, change at Government Center to Metrorail's Orange Line.
