FunDimension works for kids from about 7 to teens on a rainy afternoon or a birthday; the trade-off is that it is closed Tuesday and Wednesday, it gets loud and busy on weekends, and the bill climbs with each activity.

Why you go

This is a big indoor play space in Wynwood: an arcade, laser tag, bumper cars, duckpin bowling, rock climbing, virtual reality and an inflatable obstacle course, plus a covered outdoor tiki area. Older kids and teens get the most from it; there is less for toddlers. It rates 4.5 from 2,349 Google reviews. Two to three hours is typical. There is a family restaurant inside, and a bar for the adults, so it doubles as a party venue.

When to go

Google lists Monday 4 pm to 9 pm, closed Tuesday and Wednesday, Thursday 4 pm to 10 pm, Friday 2 pm to midnight, Saturday 11 am to midnight and Sunday 11 am to 10 pm. Weekend afternoons are the busiest, with birthday parties, so Sunday morning or a Thursday evening is calmer. Since it is indoors and air conditioned, it is a solid rainy day or hot day plan.

Know before you go

Prices are per activity or in packages; check current prices on their site, and ask about daily specials at the door. A liability waiver is required, so sign it online before you go. There is a restaurant on site. It is in Wynwood, about 10 minutes from downtown and 20 minutes from South Beach; street and lot parking in the area is paid and can be tight on weekend nights. Bring closed-toe shoes and socks for climbing and the obstacle course.
