Best for a slow weekend morning: market, café, a walk under the banyans. The trade-off is that it's still a restoration site, so parts are fenced off and weekdays are quieter.

The working half of the estate

Built in 1916 to keep Vizcaya self-sufficient, the Village held the parts the guests never saw: staff quarters, a garage and workshops, barns, greenhouses and fields that grew the house's flowers, fruit and vegetables. Eleven historic buildings sit on 12 acres under big banyan trees. The Paint Shop and the Superintendent's House are already restored, a pilot Field supports urban farming programs, and a nature path with a Pine Rockland-inspired landscape runs along the southern edge. It's history told through chicken houses and wagon sheds rather than gilded rooms, and it earns a 4.8 from about 230 Google reviews.

Sunday is the day

Every Sunday from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, the farmers market sets up alongside urban agriculture and wellness programs. There's a $5 Sunday yoga class, and weekly guided tours of the Village. The Village Café, run by A Joy Catering out of the Superintendent's House, opens Saturdays and Sundays from 9:30 am to 5 pm, so a weekend visit gets you coffee and a bite in a restored 1910s house. For something different, Thursday evening After Hours tours run in English and in Spanglish, which is about as Miami as a history tour gets.

Pardon the construction

Five buildings are still mid-restoration: the Dairy Barn, Chicken House, Stable, Wagon Shed and Farmhouse, with completion slated for late 2026. Expect some scaffolding and closed-off corners. The barns and stables around the courtyard will become a learning center with a teaching kitchen, artist's studio and conservation lab, and the Farmhouse will hold archives and a library. Google lists hours of 9:30 am to 4:30 pm every day except Tuesday, but the pedestrian gate and café are weekend-focused, so check the calendar before a weekday trip. Weekends are when the place actually feels alive.
