Why July is a little drier than June
The weather service splits the wet season into three phases. Early July to mid-August is the hottest, with intermittent dry periods: the Atlantic high-pressure ridge sits over Florida and brings episodes of Saharan dust, which dry and warm the air. That is why July's rain normal, about 7.4 inches, is lower than June's 10.5 or August's 9.6.
Hurricane season is running in July, but the National Hurricane Center puts most activity between mid-August and mid-October, with the peak on September 10. Keep an eye on its outlook the week before you travel and book refundable where you can.
