Uchi Miami
Tyson Cole's Texas-born sushi group in Wynwood, serving nontraditional nigiri, crudos and seasonal omakase in a designed room.
Checked October 2026
For a splurge dinner or a date where you want sushi with sauces, citrus and wagyu rather than purist nigiri. It's $$$$ and adds up fast; happy hour is the cheaper way in.
What to order
The Miami kitchen's local favorites list is the short answer: gyutoro, a 72-hour short rib; halibut with romanesco, shiitake, hazelnut and coconut beurre blanc; kinoko nabe, a pot of seasonal mushrooms, koshihikari rice and egg yolk; nama hotate, dayboat scallops; and akami crudo, bigeye tuna with aji amarillo, blood orange and pumpkin seed granola. That last one tells you the style. This is nontraditional sushi, so expect bold sauces and fruit, not a quiet Edomae counter. Diana Martinez runs the kitchen and Roi Ortiz leads the sushi bar.
Happy hour, lunch and omakase
Happy hour runs daily from 5 to 6:30 pm, and it's the smartest way into a $$$$ room without a big bill. Lunch is served every day from noon to 3 pm, with dinner from 5 to 11 pm, so a weekday midday visit is the calmer option. At the other end sits the seasonal omakase, a chef-led tasting that's the full commitment at this price level. The house also pours its own junmai ginjo, Better Together, made with Brooklyn Kura. The menu shifts with the season, so check what's on before you set a budget.
The rope wall and the door
A towering block wall hand-woven with rope by Miami artist Vas Bets greets you at the entrance. Behind it, Michael Hsu's architecture office went with walnut, white oak, brick, concrete and soft lighting, so it reads like Wynwood with the volume turned down. Reservations are taken and walk-ins are welcome, though a booking is the safer bet for dinner. Bigger groups get the private dining rooms, hung with woven pieces by textile designer Elan Byrd. The place holds a 4.5 from about 1,500 Google reviews, solid for a room this expensive.
