Resumo

  • Closest area: Downtown on Biscayne Blvd, by Bayside, right where the port bridge starts.
  • More to do at night: Brickell: listed at about 5 to 15 minutes' drive from PortMiami.
  • Free way to the port: Metromover to Freedom Tower, then the free Coral Way Trolley.
  • Hotel with a port transfer: YVE Hotel Miami, 146 Biscayne Blvd, sells a room with a port shuttle.
  • From the airport: Most cruise lines run their own shuttle from MIA to the port.

Sleep downtown on Biscayne Boulevard the night before: it is the closest area to PortMiami, you can reach the terminals by a short ride or the free trolley, and you are not betting your embarkation on the causeway traffic from Miami Beach.

The short answer

PortMiami sits on an island in Biscayne Bay, joined to downtown Miami by the PortMiami Bridge and a toll-free tunnel. The hotels on Biscayne Boulevard around Bayside are the closest you can sleep. Brickell is the next ring out, and Miami Beach is across the bay.

Before you pick, check your terminal. PortMiami has ten cruise terminals spread along North Cruise Boulevard, and the line you sail with decides which one. That matters more for parking and drop-off than for the hotel.

Several travel sites list paid cruise shuttles at other downtown and Brickell hotels. We could not confirm those on the hotels' own sites, so ask the front desk when you book, and get the time and price in writing.

From the hotel to the ship

Taxis wait at all cruise terminals on cruise days, and every major rideshare app drops off and picks up at the port's designated zones. From downtown or Brickell this is the simplest option with luggage.

The free option is PortMiami's own suggestion: Metromover to Freedom Tower station, then the free Coral Way Trolley across the bridge. It stops opposite the Terminal J garage on the south side, and opposite the Terminal E surface lot and the port's administrative offices on the north side. You can also walk the north side of the PortMiami Bridge, which works for a backpack, not for two suitcases.

Coming by train from Fort Lauderdale or Palm Beach, Brightline pairs MiamiCentral station with PortMiami and says a Lyft from the station takes about 10 minutes. From the airport, most cruise lines run their own shuttle to the port; book it with the cruise.

Antes de ir

  • Check your terminal letter on the boarding documents before you choose a hotel
  • Ask the hotel about a cruise shuttle when you book, not at check-out
  • If you park at the port, bring a credit card or cash: debit cards are not accepted
  • Port garages are staffed from 6 am to 5 pm on cruise days
  • Leave early from Miami Beach; the causeway is the one road you depend on
  • Keep medication and documents in your hand luggage, not in the checked bags
